Unit 2: The Active Body

 

Duration: 2 hours

 


An 'interactive' theory and laboratory activity to maximise learning outcomes of

study area 1, Body Systems & Performance.

 

 

Session Details:

 

Students will be involved in a practical laboratory to:

 

•

Learn how the cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal systems integrate during exercise

•

Understand how the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems work together during exercise

•

Measure responses to physical activity during a VO2max test (i.e. respiration, heart rate, oxygen and fuel use)

•

Compare your student's VO2max test results to elite athletes from different sports (i.e. AFL, cycling, marathon running)

•

Laboratory Report: A copy of your student's VO2max test results is provided to your group

 

 

Lab Activity: A student will perform a running VO2max test while real-time data is displayed and discussed by a sports scientist to the class.
