VCEUnit 3: Physiological & Participatory Perspectives of Physical Activity

Duration: 2 hours

 

 

An 'interactive' theory and laboratory activity to maximise learning outcomes of

study area 2, Physiological Requirements of Physical Activity.

 

 

Session Details:

 

Students will be involved in two practical laboratories to:

 

•

Understand the interplay between energy systems, exercise duration and intensity

•

Identify the characteristics of each energy system (i.e. amount and rate of ATP production)

•

Analyse the contribution from energy systems during real laboratory tests (Anaerobic vs. VO2max test)

•

Discuss the potential causes of fatigue in each test performed (i.e. Fuel depletion vs. Metabolic by-products)

•

Compare your student's VO2max test results to elite athletes from AFL, cycling and marathon running

 

 

Lab Activity:  A student to perform an anaerobic running test in the sports science laboratory followed by a running VO2max test. A discussion of results and comparison to elite athletes in other sports will be provided to your class.
