Students will be involved in two practical laboratories to:
|
|
• |
Understand the interplay between energy systems, exercise duration and intensity |
• |
Identify the characteristics of each energy system (i.e. amount and rate of ATP production) |
• |
Analyse the contribution from energy systems during real laboratory tests (Anaerobic vs. VO2max test) |
• |
Discuss the potential causes of fatigue in each test performed (i.e. Fuel depletion vs. Metabolic by-products) |
• |
Compare your student's VO2max test results to elite athletes from AFL, cycling and marathon running |
| Lab Activity: A student to perform an anaerobic running test in the sports science laboratory followed by a running VO2max test. A discussion of results and comparison to elite athletes in other sports will be provided to your class. |
