Dr. Melissa Arkinstall is the Director of Exercise Research Australia. Melissa is a key author of the VCE PE text book published by Macmillan Education Australia. Her expertise includes energy systems, LIP, oxygen deficit and EPOC as well as mechanisms of fatigue and recovery. Melissa also presents for a range of organisations including ACHPER, as an expert on curriculum specific content.

Our educators are all practising Australian sports scientists. This means you will receive the most up to date information on the latest research in the areas of energy systems, fatigue and recovery as well as fitness testing and training. Real Sports Science Experience

Real Sports Science Experience

This practical session is designed for students studying PE at a year 9 or 10 level. Students will gain an insight into the practices of an applied sports scientist prior to undertaking further study in the field.

• Discuss the body systems and the acute response to exercise
• Observe a full body composition profile: height, mass, skinfolds
• Assist with an athlete’s VO2max test
• Enhance speed & agility using the latest plyometric techniques
• Explore recovery & nutrition strategies used by elite athletes
• Measure and analyse explosive movement using the ‘Myotest’
