Maximise your exam results by enhancing understanding of the most difficult areas of study in Units 3 & 4. Interact with an expert in the field, Dr. Melissa Arkinstall, who is also a key author of the VCE PE text book published by Macmillan Education Australia. Melissa and her team will cover a range of exam topics using a question and answer format to reinforce student understanding and exam application.
Session Topics Include:
ATP demand, food & chemical fuel use
Energy system characteristics & interplay
Acute responses to exercise (O2 deficit, uptake & EPOC)
Lactate Inflection Point (LIP)
Fatigue mechanisms applied to sport
Fitness assessment: laboratory & field testing
Fitness components, training methods & principles
Chronic training adaptations
Recovery strategies
Legal and illegal substances (perceived benefits & potential harms)
Dates to be released
This practical session is designed for students studying PE at a year 9 or 10 level. Students will gain an insight into the practices of an applied sports scientist prior to undertaking further study in the field.
Session topics may include:
• Discuss the body systems and the acute response to exercise
• Observe a full body composition profile: height, mass, skinfolds
• Assist with an athlete’s VO2max test
• Enhance speed & agility using the latest plyometric techniques
• Design periodised programs using the latest Visual Coaching software
• Explore recovery & event nutrition strategies used by elite athletes
